Coming Up in the Month of July

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the historical significance of the DC vicinity, but since I really enjoy it, and we have such a limited time in the area, I’m going to start an ambitious project for the month of July. For every day in July, I’m going to highlight a historical event, or person, or connection that occurred on that day and tie it into the DC area. If possible, I’ll throw in some original photos of that event, and attempt to make the connection to yours-truly. Come back on the Wednesday for the first installment.

looking forward to it. i also had the thought of a post on coins. the us mint site basically attempts to sell you stuff and doesn't do a good job at showing the coins in "common"circulation. i thought man spinner could do a better job than this site. recently saw a martin van buren coin (i am ignorant to his importance sadly enough) and a new nickel with the log cabin. just a thought. hope you had fun out west.

That's a good idea-I might have to squirrel that away for later.

The Martin Van Buren coin must have been part of the $1 Presidential Coin series--similar to the State Quarters released in the last few years.

They release four a year, in 2009 it will be Harrison, Taylor, Polk and Taylor (or Presidents 9-12). I'll send a couple or way....
